Mavi García conquers her fifth Spanish road cycling champion title

MADRID, 24 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The cyclist Mavi García (LIV Racing TeqFind) has been proclaimed Spanish road cycling champion for the fifth time, fourth in a row, after winning this Saturday in the 122.6-kilometre race that ended in the Madrid town of San Lorenzo de El Dump.

The Majorcan, who on Friday could not achieve her poker in the individual time trial -where she was surprised by just a second by Mireia Benito (AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step) and could only be second-, was able to make up for this Saturday to confirm, at 39 years old, as the most successful runner in the long-distance events.

All after a test in which he offered a new exhibition. The peloton was broken with just 30 kilometers disputed and 25 cyclists were in front of the test; the break came to fruition in the ascent from Robledo de Chavela to Fresnedilla, where Mavi García, Mireia Benito and the Movistar Sara Martín and Sheyla Gutiérrez left.

Mavi tried to go solo in the Alto de la Cruz Verde, and Sheyla Gutiérrez responded to her attack, but managed to deal the final blow to her opponent with 26 kilometers to go. Thus, she entered the finish line with a time of 3:06:01, 50 seconds ahead of Sara Martín and Mireia Benito, silver and bronze respectively.
