MADRID, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The cyclists Mavi García and Ane Santesteban lead the Spanish squad for the Women’s Road World Championship to be held in Wollongong (Australia), from September 18 to 25, as announced on Thursday by the national coach, Gema Pascual.

Mavi García (UAE Team ADQ), current double champion of Spain for the third consecutive year, and Ane Santesteban (Team BikeExchange-Jayco) are part of a team also made up of the cyclists Sandra Alonso (Ceratizit-WNT Pro Cycling Team), bronze in the Mediterranean Games 2022, Idoia Eraso (Laboral Kutxa-Fundacion Euskadi), also double national champion in the Under-23 category, and those of the Movistar Team Lourdes Oyarbide and Sara Martín.

In this way, the six runners will face next Saturday, September 24, the online test of the World Championship, which will have a demanding route, 164 kilometers with more than 2,600 meters of difference in altitude.

As for the time trial, which will be held on Sunday, September 18, the national team will be represented by Sandra Alonso and Lourdes Oyarbide (Movistar Team). The riders from Alicante and Alava will have to face a 34.2-kilometre route through the streets of Wollongong which, in principle, seems very favorable to the great riders and specialists of the world squad.
