Martín Fiz sponsors the solidarity race ‘Run for the Child’

MADRID, 8 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish athlete Martín Fiz, world marathon champion in 1995, sponsored this Sunday in Madrid the charity race ‘Run for the Child’, which was celebrating its eleventh edition and which, with the support of Banco Santander, has managed to bring together more of 7,000 runners in the Retiro Park.

Fiz, Banco Santander ambassador, participated in the 10 kilometer test. More than 7,000 participants gathered at the start of the three scheduled distances (10 kilometers, 5 kilometers and 2 kilometers) in this family and solidarity race that allocates the entire proceeds to the Research Foundation of the Niño Jesús Hospital.

The race, promoted by the Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital itself and organized by the Mapoma Running Club, began next to the hospital, on Menéndez Pelayo Street, and ran entirely along Príncipe de Vergara Street, with two route options. : through the most demanding circuit, uphill until turning at Colombia Street, and another downhill, on the other side of the street, to the finish line.

‘Run for the Child’ is a project promoted by Dr. Juan Casado, head of Intensive Care Services at the Hospital, and has the main sponsorship of Banco Santander, which has been committed to the race since 2015, demonstrating its commitment to popular and supportive sports and the promotion of the practice of sports and healthy habits among children and their families.

The proceeds from the race, which last year went to a study on primary immune thrombocytopenia (an autoimmune disorder characterized by a low number of platelets) and another on encephalopathies secondary to channelopathies, which can cause seizures and seizures, will be allocated again to new hospital improvement projects, as it has been doing since 2012.
