MADRID, 25 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish MotoGP rider Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) confessed that he lived an “incredible and unexpected Saturday” after taking pole position at the Portuguese Grand Prix and then being third in the first sprint race of the World Championship.
“I am very happy, it has been an incredible and unexpected Saturday. Yesterday we worked a lot with the team both on the bike and on my riding style, and it was noticeable today,” he said in statements provided by his team.
The man from Cervera surprised at the first moment of truth in a campaign in which he began a priori very far from the Ducati and with the doubts of recent years. “Short races suit my style better and we can get good results. We must make the most of these opportunities to score good points,” he said.
Thus, the eight-time world champion took advantage of his moment in Q2 with the slipstream of the Ducati and took pole position. Afterwards, he was third in the Portimao sprint. “I’ve managed to stay in the group and fight to overtake, especially at the end of the race. In the last sector we have room for improvement, but we can get some advantage under braking,” he said.
“I am very grateful to my team for advising me and suggesting certain changes to improve the bike. Sometimes it is difficult to accept, but I have listened to them and the improvement has been evident. I have had a good time in the sprint race”, he concluded .
