MUNICH (GERMANY), 22 Dec. (dpa/EP) –
Former American skier Lindsey Vonn is clear that her compatriot Mikaela Shiffrin is “the best skier that ever lived” and it won’t be long before she beats her record for victories in the Alpine Ski World Cup.
“In my eyes, Mikaela is the best skier that ever lived. She will very soon break my record for World Cup victories and become the best ever,” Vonn said in an interview published Thursday by the ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine. Zeitung’.
The one from Minnesota ended her sports career in 2019 after achieving 82 wins in the World Cup, a mark that is already very close to that of Colorado, which is five away from equaling it. “She’s an incredible athlete. She has almost perfect slalom technique,” Vonn admitted.
Shiffrin started the 2022-2023 season very strongly, winning both slaloms in Levi and the downhill in St. Moritz. The 27-year-old could break Vonn’s record before the World Championships to be held next February and she could also surpass the total record in this sport, held by the Swede Ingemar Stenmark with 86 successes.
