“Lim has not told me to sell”

Gennaro Gattuso surprised this Thursday in his presentation as the new coach of the Valencia. Not because of the force that it gives off, but because of the panorama that she drew for the club of Mestalla and that comes to him after his meeting a few days ago with the club’s largest shareholder Peter Lim. According to him, the businessman has not told him that players have to be sold, nor that the club is in a difficult financial situation, which will give him the opportunity to talk to Guedes, Soler or Gayà to try to convince them to stay.

“If you ask me what the debt is, I don’t know the debt of the Valencia. Now I will talk to Sean Bai (CEO) and he will explain it to me,” he noted. “We haven’t talked about the need to sell. He has not told me that ‘I have to sell this or that one by force’. We have talked about what to do if one thing or another happens, ”he pointed out regarding his conversations with Lim.

”I want to speak with them to see if there is a possibility of finding a solution, of making a year or two more of the contract. The priority is to talk and then talk to the president,” he said.

Gattuso He said he trusted the largest shareholder and recounted how his meetings were. “I’m not an accountant, I don’t have a bank. He didn’t give me the feeling that he was going to cheat on me. He has made the situation clear to me but he has not told me that I should sell, ”he said.

“We did it with a blackboard, he was my assistant, he wrote and I dictated. We were an hour and he liked it, after two hours even more and I hope it got into his head, ”he explained. Of course, they did not talk about the team’s objectives either. “We haven’t talked about goals. We have talked about identity, style of play. I haven’t heard anything from eighth, seventh, tenth… we talked about the style and the methodology that we have in the quarry and that we want to apply”, he added.

Yes indeed, Gattuso He said that he knows that he arrives at a difficult place, in which the fans are facing Lim. “He’s had seven or eight proposals before but I turned them down. I’m here because I’m at a great club, I like difficult things. I was the first Italian to play for England at the age of 17 and a half and one of the first world champions to go to work in incredible conditions,” he explained.

“I could have gotten better contracts. I have had higher offers than Valencia but to play in a stadium like this and with such a crowd it is worth suffering and taking risks”, added Gattuso, who said that it is “a great pride and a great honor to train this one” and pointed out that Although he has “a very difficult and very hard job” ahead of him, neither he nor his coaching staff are “afraid”.

The coach said that it has been more difficult for him to train at Sion, Crete or Pisa than at Napoli or Milan and he put his new team on a par with the latter.

“Today I have been in the sports city and the structure makes everything easier. I have realized again that I am in a great club where you can live the sense of belonging. For me, Valencia is in the same category as Naples or Milan. Although it is not going through a good moment, it is a club with an incredible history. We will have to pedal all together but we are going to achieve great results”, he predicted.
