Al-Khelaïfi, enigmatic about Luis Enrique’s future: “What question is that?”

MADRID, 8 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, has been enigmatic about the future of Luis Enrique Martínez as coach of his team, having responded crudely to a journalist after the Parisian team’s elimination in the Champions League semi-finals League, at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.

“Is Luis Enrique going to stay as PSG coach next season?” Al-Khelaïfi was asked this Tuesday in the mixed zone at the Parc des Princes. “What question is that, honestly? Honestly. Do you understand football?” snapped the PSG leader.

“Very sad about the result, of course, disappointed. We thought we were going to the final, we thought we had the game, but that’s football. We were able to score four times and all four times they hit the post. Last week they didn’t go in another two… Sometimes football is not fair, really. But I think we deserved a better result than this, of course,” commented Al-Khelaïfi.

Despite not clarifying Luis Enrique’s future on the bench, he did include it in his thanks about this season. “I want to thank the players who have given everything, the coach, the staff and of course the fans who have been present at all times since the first match of the Champions League,” said Al-Khelaïfi.

“Sadly, our goal really was to reach the final, or even further. But we are proud. We are the youngest team in Europe and three times in the last five years we have been in the semi-finals. Of course, our goal is not to stay there and we will continue to work. This is not the end of the world,” summarized the PSG president.

Finally, he pointed out the differentiating factor of this semifinal. “Luck, luck. Especially if you hit the stick four times,” he repeated. “The youngest team in Europe, and we are going to continue, that’s for sure. The future is for us. I am proud, really very proud of what we have done,” concluded Al-Khelaïfi in the mixed zone of the Parisian stadium.
