Laura Fuertes wins the 2023 Iberdrola Boxing Cup

Boxer Laura Fuertes, the first Spanish boxer in history to qualify for the Olympic Games, was one of the eight winners of the 2023 Iberdrola Boxing Cup, which was held this Saturday at the PAU-4 South Sports Hall in Móstoles.

The Asturian, who secured her presence in Paris 2024 months ago, competed in -50kg, one of the eight categories of the evening, and surpassed Iratxe Vals in her points fight.

The competition, organized by the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation with the collaboration of the Móstoles City Council, took place in several weight categories and a single combat in each of them: 46-48kg, -50kg, -52kg, -54kg, -57kg , -60kg, -63kg, and -66kg.

In each category, the head of the national team faced off against a rival chosen from among the best athletes in the national ranking, such as those who came in first, second or third place in the Spanish Elite AOB Championships by autonomies this year (2023). ).

In the -48kg category, Carmen González beat Clara Cortés on points; in -50kg, Laura Fuertes defeated Iratxe Vals; and in -52kg, Natalia Sorroche was declared the winner after the fight with Paula Ruiz did not take place. Marta López also achieved point victories over María González in -54kg; Jennifer Fernández against Nayara Arroyo at -57kg; Cristina Alesanco against Marta de los Mozos in -60kg; Ana Isabel González against Laura Galano in -63kg; and Mariana Soto against Luna Mª Hurtado at -66kg.

This competition was born with the aim of providing the leading boxers in Spain with greater activity and, therefore, more experience for future competitions, both national and international.
