Laura Fuertes will be the first Spanish boxer in an Olympic Games

With her access to the semifinals of the European Games, the Asturian certifies her ticket to Paris 2024

MADRID, 28 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Asturian boxer Laura Fuertes achieved this Wednesday a place to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, thanks to her access to the semifinals of the European Games that are being held in Krakow-Malopolska (Poland), and for this reason she will become the first Spanish present in an Olympic event.

During her fight against the Portuguese Rita de Pinho Soares in the -50 kg category, Fuertes showed herself to be superior despite her rival’s aggressiveness. After solving some difficulties in the first round, the Spanish took advantage of her size advantage to score repeatedly.

In the next round, De Pinho increased his efforts and the Asturian even felt more comfortable. In the final, Fuertes only had to resist his opponent’s barrage of attacks, which he did perfectly until scoring the victory on points with a unanimous vote from the jury (5-0).

“I already have the dream ticket and I am very happy to make history for Spanish boxing, both before in a World Cup and now representing my country in the Olympics. Only the work team knows what we have fought for this”, declared the own Fuertes, after the fight, to the Royal Spanish Boxing Federation.
