LaLiga launches ‘Video Review System’ to help the bench in case of possible injuries

MADRID, 30 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga launches on this day, number 27 in LaLiga Santander and number 34 in LaLiga SmartBank, the ‘Video Review System’ with a double tactical and medical function that will allow the technical and medical staff of each team to review plays practically instantly from the benches.

“LaLiga consolidates its position as a leader in the technological forefront on Matchday 27 of LaLiga Santander and 34 of LaLiga SmartBank by launching an innovative system on benches called the ‘Video Review System’,” LaLiga announced in a statement.

The entity explained that Microsoft provides a technology that allows, with a “powerful Surface Pro device”, that the clubs can review the plays “in great detail” and from different camera perspectives in the technical area and benches, from this day.

“The service will have a double medical and tactical function that, among other purposes, will serve to act or intervene more effectively in the event of an injury. The initiative is part of the work that the LaLiga Mediacoach area has been carrying out for years to protect the health of the players”, contributed the entity.

With the ‘Video Review System’ (VRS) clubs are offered a service that simultaneously provides a large part of the live video signals among those used for retransmission through a device with a touch screen, which It also allows playback with a specific delay, to review a play immediately, with zoom and loop repetitions for analysis of an action.

A multiscreen will be offered to view up to 4 different angles simultaneously and other unprecedented playback controls. A multidisciplinary team of analysts and technicians will also be at the service of the clubs both on the field and remotely to solve technical aspects, in addition to having the support of the LaLiga Audiovisual and Match Directors areas.

The new system has two key functions. On the one hand, the protection of the health of players and injury prevention: “allows a better diagnosis and intervention, and offers a tool to medical bodies that allows them better and faster management and intervention in case of injury, being able to access in real time to the review of all available images and angles”.

On the other hand, a use of technical and tactical analysis by the coaching staff: “the live television signal allows the review of plays and positions from several different cameras, which makes it easier to complement this functionality with performance data and the signal of Mediacoach’s tactical camera”, pointed out LaLiga.

This double function is the differential factor that makes LaLiga a pioneer by being the first to implement it collectively, for all the clubs, with this double purpose of performance and medical together with the support of the Mediacoach platform.

The initiative, carried out by HawkEye, is part of the LaLiga and Microsoft project: Beyond Stats, which promotes the approach of advanced statistics or video analysis tools to fans and club coaching staff.

“At LaLiga we are determined to make our best efforts to provide club professionals with tools to help them carry out their activity, with the conviction that, through the use of these, all affiliated clubs and SADs LaLiga help to improve the competitiveness and level of our competitions, and especially in everything related to the performance of the teams and in particular, with the health of their players”, stated the director of Competitions of LaLiga, Luis Gil.

“From the Mediacoach area, in recent years we have placed special emphasis on helping to prevent and monitor the risk of injuries, making resources such as real-time alerts available to the clubs and carrying out scientific studies in collaboration with universities with the performance data of the clubs, so that they have all the information to plan their training sessions and matches, helping to reduce the risk”, added the director of the Mediacoach area in LaLiga, Ricardo Resta.
