Kotsar: “Baskonia is not the biggest or the richest in the Euroleague, but it has a great fighting spirit”

MADRID, 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Estonian center of Cazoo Baskonia, Maik Kotsar, acknowledges that the team from Vitoria “is not the biggest or the richest” in the 2022-2023 Euroleague, but that it does have “a great fighting spirit” that allows it ” compete every year” in the tournament.

“I have always seen Baskonia as a good team and fighter. Obviously, they are not the biggest or richest in the EuroLeague, but they have a great fighting spirit. With a small budget, they have been able to compete every year, get great victories and showing that toughness. And I love that,” Kotsar said in an interview that ‘DAZN’ starts this Thursday.

The Tallinn player acknowledges that he had already “kept his eye” on the Baskonia team “even before” receiving the offer to sign. “When they did it, I only thought about it for a couple of days, I made the decision pretty quickly,” he added.

For the Estonian, “it will undoubtedly be a challenge” to have to alternate the Euroleague with the Endesa League. “Each game is going to be intense and there isn’t going to be an easy one. We are going to win every game and we know that we can’t win all of them, we just have to be hungry and play our best basketball,” he warned.

“I am very excited to be able to play the Euroleague. I remember as a child watching the ‘Final Four’ and with my father also watching Regular Phase games,” Kotsar celebrated about his participation in the continental competition.

Finally, the pivot celebrates sharing a team with his compatriot Sander Raieste, who has been a “great help” for his best adaptation. “When I thought of coming, I asked him about the team. He has been here for seven years and helps me to get my bearings and to know what to do in the city and how to do things,” he said.
