King Carl Gustaf of Sweden, 76, underwent successful heart surgery

The King of Sweden, Carlos Gustavo, underwent heart surgery this Monday, February 20, which he successfully completed. The reasons for the intervention, which was planned and was announced in a statement from the Royal House of Sweden last Tuesday, have not been disclosed.

The 76-year-old monarch is in good health, but has canceled his engagements until March 3 to ensure his full recovery. The technique used in the intervention has been a laparoscopy, a type of minimally invasive surgery.

The king has appreciated the support and warmth of medical professionals, as well as the efficiency of the Swedish healthcare system. In September it will be fifty years since Carlos Gustavo’s accession to the throne.
