Judith Rodríguez wins bronze in épée at the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup

The Spanish Judith Rodríguez has won the bronze medal in épée at the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup, held in Washington (United States), and is fourth in the international ranking of this weapon with a view to the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

The woman from Vigo began the competition with an impeccable ‘poule’ by winning her five matches against the French Clemence Delavoipierre, the Canadian Amber Briar, the British Emily Holder and the Americans Victoria Isaacson and Patricia Dykes.

In the round of 16 she beat the French Bourgine Cassiopee (15-12) and in the quarterfinals the Hungarian Amarilla Veres (15-13), Paralympic champion at the Tokyo Games and number one in the international ranking, before falling in the semifinals with the South Korean Hyo Kyeong Kwon (15-9).

In this same World Cup in Washington, Judith Rodríguez also competed in foil, a weapon in which she finished eleventh. “I am happy to have started the year in this way, since this medal brings a lot of work and sacrifice behind it and these are things that are not seen on the track, but they are what make me want to continue working to achieve my dream.” to go to the Paris Games,” he said.
