Juan Carlos I’s weekend in Sanxenxo and his gradual return to Spain

The king Don Juan Carlos has reappeared this Saturday around 12 in the morning at the Sanxenxo marina to participate in its usual regattas. With sunglasses, a cap and dressed in a blue jacket, the emeritus will sail aboard the Bribón in a competition that will continue this Sunday.

Unlike his other sailing days, Felipe VI’s father did not enjoy the company of the ship this Saturday. Infanta Elena, his faithful companion in his Sanxenxo regattas. Juan Carlos I arrived this morning at the yacht club in the Galician town along with Pedro Camposyour usual host every time you set foot in Galicia.

Beyond participating in his regattas, as is customary, it is expected that Don Juan Carlos’s agenda these days will also include outings to dinner or lunch at local restaurants in the area.

Doña Sofía’s husband arrived in Sanxenxo last Wednesday and, during these four days, he has not left his friend Campos’ house. So far this year, Juan Carlos I has visited Spain on two occasions. The first was between March 13 and 17 when, after attending a medical check-up in Vitoria, the emeritus traveled to Sanxenxo for a few days to participate in the first series of regattas.

15 days later, the grandfather of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía attended the wedding of Martínez Almeida and Teresa Urquijo in the capital on April 6. The following Monday, Don Juan Carlos met again with Felipe VI and Mrs. Letizia at the funeral of Fernando Gomez Acebodied on March 1 at the age of 49.

With his repeated visits to Spain (whether for medical, family or sporting reasons), the emeritus puts on the table a calculated and gradual return to Spain. At the moment, the only statements about a possible return of Juan Carlos I to our country occurred in 2023 when sources close to Don Juan Carlos denied that he planned to move back if Alberto Núñez Feijóo won the last general elections.
