Josema Giménez renews with Atlético de Madrid until 2028

The Uruguayan footballer José María Giménez, 28, extended his contract with Atlético de Madrid this Friday until 2028, thus formalizing a renewal agreement reached with the management of the mattress club last September.

This was indicated by Atlético itself on its website, specifying that Giménez has extended her commitment to wear the red and white shirt for three seasons. “Accompanied by our CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil, the Uruguayan footballer signed his new contract at the Cívitas Metropolitano offices,” the note stated.

“In April 2013 and at just 18 years of age, the Uruguayan centre-back joined the red and white discipline and five months later, on September 14, he made his debut in the 4-2 victory against Almería. Thus, in that campaign he participated in winning the 2013/14 league championship, while continuing to train at the highest level,” the text added.

“In the following seasons he continued to gain prominence and his drive and character not only made him an idol in the stands, but also a fundamental defensive piece both in our team and in the Uruguayan national team,” the press release noted.

A member of the quartet of captains since the 2019/20 campaign, to date he has won not only the aforementioned 2013/14 League, but also the 2014 Spanish Super Cup, the 2017/18 Europa League, the 2018 European Super Cup and the 2020 League /twenty-one.

“Today he continues to write his red and white history, accumulating a total of 290 games with the Atlético de Madrid jersey. Congratulations, Josema!”, concluded the mattress entity in its press release.
