Jorge Martín: “I would have loved to sign two years at Ducati, but it doesn’t depend on me”

MADRID, 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish rider Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac Racing) admitted this Thursday that he would have “loved to sign for two years at the Ducati factory”, but denied that it depended on him and said that he is now “in the best possible seat” for his options. in the MotoGP World Championship, which will start this weekend in Losail (Qatar).

“I feel very happy. I think I’m in the best possible seat. I would have loved to sign for two years at the Ducati factory, but it’s not up to me. It’s my main goal, but at the moment I feel great here and I think it’s a great place to fight for this season, but we’ll see next season,” Martín highlighted during a press conference.

Thus, the Madrid native described his performance in 2023 fighting for the title as “very good.” “The season is already in the past and we are in the present, and we have to work hard. I feel better with the new bike, the tests went well and we need to do more laps; but it is immediately competitive, and it is very good” , he stressed.

“Other years it was a little difficult for us at the beginning, so I’m focused. I think I’ve done a good job during the winter, so I feel prepared for everything, so we’re going to go for it,” he added.

In this sense, Martín advocated “waiting for the first races” to see how his bike is doing. “It’s no use speculating, I’m going to try to be as competitive as before and win races,” he said in this regard.

“It’s never easy. The month between the test and the first race is strange and it scared me, because last season was very good and I wanted to maintain the same level and you never know what’s going to happen, so it gave me a little bit of “I’m afraid of that matter. Now that it’s Thursday and I’m here, I’m very happy. I’m really looking forward to it and it’s changed a little compared to when I arrived, I’m looking forward to starting tomorrow,” he insisted.

The 26-year-old driver stated that the jump from 2022 to 2023 “was quite easy.” “The 2022 bike didn’t work very well for me and I was immediately competitive with the 2023 and with the new bike it takes me a bit to get used to the riding style, you have to change it a little because you can take advantage of other parts of the circuit, so It’s hard for me. In Sepang I immediately saw that it is better, so I think it is a very good bike for me too,” Martín pointed out.

In the face of future problems, he highlighted the “great analysis” and “great research” carried out this winter by his team. “I was driving well, I was fast, but in the last simulation I started to suffer a lot of problems. I don’t want to think too much about this, because they were just the last runs. We’ll see tomorrow, but I hope they have resolved it,” he concluded.
