BARCELONA, 5 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

FC Barcelona player João Cancelo injured his left knee in this Thursday's match against UD Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria Stadium, and will be out indefinitely due to a strain of the internal lateral ligament in his left knee.

“The tests carried out this morning show that the first team player João Cancelo has a strain of the internal lateral ligament in his left knee. It is low and his evolution will determine his availability,” the Blaugrana club announced in a statement.

The Portuguese full-back started the match against Las Palmas, with the Blaugrana winning 1-2, but had to leave the field in the 11th minute of the duel after a fortuitous action during a shot attempt. He was replaced by Danish centre-back Andreas Christensen.

Since arriving at FC Barcelona last summer, the Portuguese international has played 22 games, 16 in LaLiga EA Sports and 6 in the Champions League, with 3 goals scored and 2 assists in overall competitions.

Without knowing the evolution of this injury, Cancelo joins the absences of Pedri and Iñigo Martínez, who could soon return to the team, and Gavi, who will be out for the remainder of the season with a serious knee injury, in addition to those of Marc-André Ter Stegen and Marcos Alonso.
