Joan Toni Moreno and Diego Domínguez get a place for the Olympic Games in C2 500

MADRID, 11 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish canoeists Joan Toni Moreno and Diego Domínguez have obtained the silver medal this Saturday in the C2 500 meters event of the Sprint World Cup, which is being held in Szeged (Hungary), and thanks to this they have achieved a ticket to compete in the Olympic Games next summer in Paris (France).

The race was fast and exciting, with Russian veterans Alexey Korovashkov and Ivan Shtyl soon taking the lead as the Majorcan and the Galician fought to keep up. In the second half, Korovashkov and Shtyl, who have been in the elite for more than a decade, took care of their advantage over the rest and the fight focused on their pursuers.

Moreno and Domínguez pushed in the finish to secure that silver and beat the Hungarians Adolf Balazs and Jonatan Daniel Hajdu by half a second, who completed the podium. Moreno and Domíngez’s rivals for the Olympic place were the other Spanish team, formed by Cayetano García and Pablo Martínez. The Andalusians arrived here as distance world champions, but they finished fourth and will be left without a Parisian event.
