MADRID, 16 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Italian tennis team won this Friday 3-0 against the Chilean team during matchday 4 in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals, while Croatia said goodbye to the tournament after losing 1-2 to Finland and the United Kingdom. United remained undefeated on their way, beating Switzerland (2-1).

In Group A, which is played in Bologna (Italy), the locals took breath thanks to the triumphs of Matteo Arnaldi over Cristian Garín (2-6, 6-4 and 6-3) and Lorenzo Sonego over Nicolás Jarry (3 -6, 7-5 and 6-4) in individual matches. In addition, Lorenzo Musetti and Sonego himself beat Tomás Barrios and Alejandro Tabilo ([3]6-7, 6-3 y 7-6[2]) in the doubles.

Within Group B, which takes place in Manchester (United Kingdom), another host team smiled. In this case, veteran Andy Murray ([7]6-7, 6-4 and 6-4) beat the Swiss Leandro Riedi and then the also experienced Stan Wawrinka equalized the pairing by beating the British Cameron Norrie 7-5 and 6-4.

The doubles match, which Daniel Evans and Neal Skupski won 6-3 and 6-3 against Dominic Stricker and Wawrinka himself, decided the series in favor of the local team at the Manchester Arena. Despite everything, the British ticket to the quarterfinals is still not mathematical.

And finally, in Group D, the host Croatia suffered another bad result that, to make matters worse, cost them their elimination. At the Split venue, Dino Prizmic fell to Otto Virtanen 6-4, 3-6 and 6-3 in the first single; Borna Gojo did the same against Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6(3) and 6-4, confirming the collapse of the checkered team.

The duo formed by Ivan Dodig and Mate Pavic later made up for the Croatian defeat on aggregate, as they defeated the Finns Harri Heliovaara and Patrik Niklas-Salminen 6-4 and 7-6(1) in less than an hour and average on the track.
