The Spanish coach and former Athletic Club player Ibai Gómez will be the coach of the Dominican Republic U-23 in the next Olympic Games in Paris, a tournament in which the Central American country will participate for the first time in its history, as confirmed by the Dominican Federation of Football through a statement.
The Dominican Football Federation appointed this Thursday the Spanish Ibai Gómez as coach of the Dominican U-23 football team, which will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games among the 16 teams in the world that obtained their ticket to be in the Olympic tournament.
Ibai Gómez, 34 years old, will take on his first challenge as a coach at the helm of a national team, also with the responsibility of facing the largest universal sporting event, the Olympic Games. It will be his second experience on the bench after directing Santutxu FC since June 2023.
Ibai Gómez wore the shirt as a player for Athletic Club, Deportivo Alavés in Spain's first division, as well as Deportivo La Coruña in the RFEF first division.
The Spaniard will be accompanied by Fernando Amorebieta, former teammate at Athletic Club, as technical assistant; Iñigo Larriqueta Gutiérrez as second technical assistant; Omar Fernández de la Calle will be the physical trainer; Endika Montiel Arto will serve as nutritionist and Gonzalo Rubio will serve as tactical analyst.
