“I am proud to be the coach of Palmeiras”

Palmeiras coach, the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, said this Saturday that he feels “proud” of his team’s performance, despite the 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final played in the United Arab Emirates, which was defined in extra time with a penalty.

“We managed to overcome the individual quality that the other team has. We had courage, we managed to attack them and we managed to draw (within 90 minutes). These are details, I am a coach who is proud to be the Palmeiras coach”, declared Ferreira at the end of the match played in Abu Dhabi.

This Saturday, with goals from Romelu Lukaku and the German Kai Havertz, from a penalty validated by the VAR in the final minutes of extra time, the London team prevailed over the two-time champion of the Copa Libertadores, who discounted through Raphael Veiga.

“We knew it was a difficult game and that’s why we planned this game against Chelsea without talking about results, we did our job, we played well, we shot a lot and I’m proud of my team,” said Abel Ferreira, who led the two-time Copa Libertadores champion (2020 and 2021).

“I don’t want to talk about the result, we lost, and we have to congratulate whoever won. Last year we know where we finished (in fourth position) and this year we finished second. We lost to a great team, in a game of details, that’s why I’m very proud also of my players”, concluded the Portuguese.
