Halep wins his second title of the year in Prague

Romanian Simona halep She fulfilled her condition of first favorite and won the title of the Prague tournament by defeating the Belgian in the final this Sunday Elise Mertens, third seeded, by 6-2 and 7-5. This is the second title of this season for Halep, who will now have to decide whether to compete in the US Open.

The Romanian won in 95 minutes, to obtain the fourth win against Mertens in five games. Halep only lost the third of them, in Doha last year. This week, Halep played the Prague WTA tournament for the first time in her career. She had competed in the Czech capital last year, but in the Federation Cup, in the quarter-final match against the locals, and had won the singles matches against Katerina Siniakova and Kristina Pliskova, to help the Romanian victory 3-2.

The doubles title stayed at home, as the Czechs Lucie Hradecka and Kristina Pliskova won the final Romanians Monica Niculescu and Raluca-Ioana Olaru, 6-2 and 6-2.

Positive in the men's qualifying phase

The men's Prague tournament, challenger category, left a positive for coronavirus in tests prior to the start of the main phase of the tournament. As confirmed by the ATP itself in an official statement, the positive was detected in a Czech player, so he can keep the quarantine at home. The player was not registered in the main draw, so he was going to participate as wildcard (guest) or in the double mode. The tournament continues as planned despite this news.
