Guillaume Martin leaves Tour after testing positive for coronavirus

French cyclist Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) will not start this Sunday in the ninth stage of the Tour de France after testing positive for COVID-19 three times in the last few hours, his team has confirmed.

Cofidis reported that the runner gave “a double positive” in the tests that were carried out by the team doctor, and that after that they contacted the International Cycling Union (UCI) and ASO – organizer of the Tour de France-.

“An emergency PCR test carried out this Sunday morning by the ASO mobile unit confirmed his positive. In accordance with the regulations and in agreement with the UCI and ASO doctors, Guillaume Martin will not take the start of the ninth stage”, Cofidis pointed out.


The rest of the Cofidis cyclists and all the team’s personnel were also tested and their results were “all negative”. The team will carry out a new mandatory test at the end of the rest day.
