Guadalajara crowns the first Spanish table tennis champion for people with Parkinson’s

The Brianda de Mendoza Sports Center, in Guadalajara, hosted this Thursday the first Spanish table tennis Championship for people with Parkinson’s, coinciding with the World Day that serves to raise awareness about this neurodegenerative disease, and which left Francisco Molina from Murcia as the winner. first champion.

In a day of enthusiasm, commitment and inclusion, the Royal Spanish Table Tennis Federation (RFETM) began this event with the participation of 53 paddlers in total. Ana Guarinos, mayor of Guadalajara, and David González, representative of the La Caixa Foundation, held a symbolic kick-off in the morning.

This ceremony was also attended by the Councilor for Sports, Armengol Engonga, and the Councilors for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Eva Henche and Roberto Narro, accompanied by the president of the RFETM, Miguel Ángel Machado, and by the director of events of the RFETM, Daniel Valero.

RFETM itself presented Ana Guarinos and David González with a special case, made from recycled materials and containing a professional table tennis racket along with official balls.

CLEAR DOMAIN OF FRANCISCO MOLINA

The competition began with a group stage, in which the best classified went to the main draw, while the other participants continued in the consolation draws A and B. This system guaranteed that everyone played numerous matches.

Francisco Molina demonstrated superiority from the beginning, leading his group with five consecutive victories and maintaining his undefeated streak in the final draw. He continued his impeccable dominance there, winning every match 3-0. In the second round he defeated Fernando Ruiz, followed by a victory over Jesús Morales in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Molina faced Fernando Sanfeliu, whom he also beat easily, in order to design a final confrontation with Francisco Quiñones. That duel was a reflection of his great performance throughout the day, in light of his victory with another resounding 3-0.
