Gasol, Blanco, Casado and Samaranch lead the Spanish presence in the IOC commissions

Pau Gasol, Juan Antonio Samaranch, Marisol Casado, Alejandro Blanco, Beatriz Garcia and Emilio Garcia Silvero are the Spanish representatives on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) working committees for 2023, announced Tuesday by the body.

Former basketball player Pau Gasol is a member of the Athletes Commission, as well as the Ethics Commission and the Games Coordination Commission of the XXXIV Los Angeles 2028 Olympiad, which also includes the president of the International Federation of Triathlon (World Triathlon), Marisol Casado.

The Madrid leader, a member of the IOC since 2010, accumulates up to six presences in commissions, since in addition to the one in Los Angeles, she is also on the Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXXIII Paris 2024 Olympiad; in the Commission of Future Hosts; in the Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission; in the Olympic Solidarity Commission and in the Education Commission.

Meanwhile, Juan Antonio Samaranch Salisachs, member of the Executive Commission as Vice President of the IOC, is present in the Communication, Marketing and Digital Engagement Commission; on the Television and Marketing Services Commission; in the Broadcasting Commission; and in the Olympic Channel Commissions of Switzerland and Spain.

For his part, the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE), Alejandro Blanco, is on the Coordination Commission for the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games and on the Olympic Program Commission, while Beatriz García is present at the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission and Emilio García Silvero, in the Athletes Environment Commission.

IOC President Thomas Bach further upholds gender equality in all commission posts after the historic milestone was first reached in 2022. For the first time in history, the IOC is also looking to the future of esports with the creation of a new eSports Commission.
