Franco: “We have magnificent athletes, but a serious problem in the role of female managers”

MADRID, 19 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Franco, recalled that there is still “a serious problem” regarding the position of women in relevant management positions in a women’s sport “with a great future in Spain” .

“Women’s sport has a great future in Spain and it is one of the clearest, most determined and forceful bets of the CSD, although it is not something new, our predecessors already maintained it and it is also done from the COE, CPE or ADESP. Without false With optimism we can say that we are making adequate progress, but we must also say loudly that there is still a long way to go,” Franco said during the Europa Press Sports Breakfasts, sponsored by DAZN, Repsol, LAE and Unicaja, which featured the role of the women managers in sport.

The leader described the three protagonists, Amanda Gutiérrez, president of FUTPRO, Marisol Casado, president of the International Triathlon Union and member of the IOC, and Asunción Lorente, president of the Spanish Rowing Federation, as “three great women of more value accredited” and that they counted on their organization as an “unconditional ally”.

Franco recalled that Spanish sport has “magnificent athletes who are up to the new times and the commitment that Spanish society is making for real equality”, but stressed that there is a “serious problem in the role of women directives”.

“It is not acceptable in terms of equality that out of 65 federations there are only two at the helm and we all have to correct that. Measures are being adopted from the administrations to reduce this. A percentage of women is required on the boards of directors of the federations, but it is not enough, the positions they occupy are secondary. We have to improve that and it corresponds to all the powers of the State”, declared the president of the CSD, who recalled that the future new Sports Law “advances in a very important way in this address”.
