Felipe VI and Letizia celebrate the 20th anniversary of their romantic proposal in Denmark

Planetary and media. And also romantic. This was the official request for the hand of the then Prince Felipe and the Asturian journalist Letizia Ortiz, who is now 20 years old. It was November 6, 2003 in El Pardo. This very famous anniversary of the Kings comes to them with a state trip. Don Felipe and Doña Letizia travel to Denmark on Monday the 6th for a three-day visit, until December 8. We will see if during that journey they show us an image, a gesture in love. The Queen knows very well how to give a look, a detail that the cameras capture. She is an expert in communication.

On November 1, 2003, the Asturian journalist officially arrived at Zarzuela when Casa Real made public her official engagement with the Prince of Asturias. With her presentation, in the gardens of the El Pardo Palace, she was the character of the year: the TVE presenter who would become a princess and then a queen. She was wearing the impeccable Armani suit and in a moment of impulse she said “let me finish” to Felipe. It was Letizia Ortiz, whom we all knew from the Telediario. On October 31 she hosted what would be her last newscast.

20 years have passed since that moment. The Kings, who form a compact and cohesive work team, face a new appointment on their international agenda. The state trip to Denmark between November 6 and 8 coincides with that very popular anniversary. This commitment has coincided in time with the celebration of Leonor’s 18th birthday and her swearing in of the Constitution.

The monarch and his wife go to the country in the Scandinavian region in response to the invitation of the Danish queen, Margaret. Don Felipe maintains a close relationship with the 83-year-old monarch, who is the sister of Ana María de Grecia, widow of Constantine of Greece and aunt of her Majesty. As a detail, the affectionate video that the Kings sent to Margarita for her 80th birthday, in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic: “Hello Aunt Daisy! Dear Aunt Daisy…”, Felipe VI greeted with affection.

On this trip to Copenhagen, Felipe VI and Letizia will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares. Margaret is the longest-serving sovereign after Elizabeth II, who reigned for 75 years. Her heir is Federico (in the photo, with his wife Mary).
