Eight blind athletes will attend the concentration of ‘Women and Sport’

MADRID, 23 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A total of eight athletes who are blind or with low vision will attend, thanks to an initiative of the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind (FEDC), the concentration of ‘Women and Sports’ that is traditionally held on these Christmas dates and that will take place on December 26-30 at the Alfaz del Pi Sports Complex (Alicante).

The objective of this sporting event is that the athletes can continue training and analyze their options of being able to participate in the European Youth Championship next June 2022 in Finland.

The athletes summoned are María Zamora (Barcelona), Gara Fuentes (Madrid), as well as the Valencian Nuria Pascual, Beatriz Silvestre, Ana Moya, Lucía Pugnaire and the sisters Carolina and Andrea Yuste.

Specific training will be carried out, consisting of carrying out different tests to assess their physical and technical condition, in order to obtain a better knowledge and control of their progression for later and competitions. This monitoring allows informing both the athletes and their coaches about the conditions observed and patterns of improvement.

It is an initiative of the Spanish Sports Federation for the Blind (FEDC) in line with the Manifesto for Equality and the Participation of Women in Sports, approved by the Higher Sports Council on January 29, 2009.

In this sense, the FEDC considers it essential to take measures that allow the development of a sports culture and the full participation of women in all aspects of sport, which is why sports promotion projects are carried out among the female population with blindness.
