Dortmund deny Haaland has a buyout clause

The German media have long assumed that there is a release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract. It would range between 75 and 90 million euros and would take effect from next summer, allowing the Norwegian forward to leave Borussia Dortmund as soon as the season ends. As Hans-Joachim Watzke, BVB general director, has just confirmed, everything published about this clause is a mere rumor that does not correspond to reality at all.

“I cannot confirm a termination clause as such,” the head honcho responded to a partner’s question on Thursday during the shareholders’ meeting of the second-ranked Bundesliga. As detailed by the German sports website Sport1, The only thing that would exist would be a verbal agreement between the club and the player to open the exit door in exchange for an offer that they consider satisfactory at the Signal Iduna Park offices and that, also, is around 100 kilos.

“More than 90 per cent of our contracts with the players do not contain a termination clause,” added a Watzke who, as is known, will do everything possible to retain Haaland beyond 2022.. The plan of the technical secretariat is to raise his salary to around 18 million euros per year and make him the best paid of the staff. Much will depend on what the player himself wants, especially after a second round in which Dortmund will no longer play the Champions League.
