De la Puente goes to the quarterfinals of the US Open and Dani Caverzaschi retires

MADRID, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Martín de la Puente qualified this Wednesday for the quarterfinals of the US Open, while, on the contrary, his compatriot Dani Caverzaschi was forced to withdraw in his match.

De la Puente was favored by the abandonment of Britain’s Gordon Reid, number nine in the world ranking and who left the court after losing the first set by a clear 6-2. The Galician will now try to surprise the Japanese Shingo Kunieda, number one in the world and a rival to beat.

For his part, Caverzaschi, who arrived in New York against the clock to overcome his discomfort in his left wrist that was operated on two months ago, had to leave in his duel against the Japanese Tokito Oda, fourth favorite, after falling in the first set for 6-0.
