David Alonso takes the Moto3 pole in Mugello ahead of Iván Ortolá

MADRID, 1 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish-Colombian rider David Alonso (CFMoto) achieved pole position this Saturday for the Moto3 category in the Italian Grand Prix, the seventh stop of the World Championship, after being ahead of the Spaniards Iván Ortolá and José Antonio Rueda , both on KTM motorcycles.

Sevillian David Muñoz (KTM) was the only Spaniard to pass Q1, with his second place thanks to a best time of 1:56.045. But in the subsequent Q2, Muñoz barely had the option to fight against the ‘cocks’ of this small displacement of the World Cup.

Although Ortolá was quite strong and set a time of 1:54.441 that provisionally gave him pole position at the Mugello International Circuit, Alonso did ‘in extremis’ a best time of 1:54.194; fourth pole for him in the seven Grands Prix this season.

The asphalt was conditioned by a fall of the Dutchman Collin Veijer (Husqvarna) with one minute remaining, when he was third and his pace was powerful, ready to hunt down those at the top. But José Antonio Rueda (KTM) took that position from him at the horn, after a qualifying round from less to more for Dani Holgado (GasGas), finally fifth.
