MADRID, 19 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Real Madrid's Belgian goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois, has assured that, “hopefully”, he will be able to play again in May, when he overcomes his anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee, but that he will not be able to be “100%” for the German Euro 2024.
“It is better to be honest now. Due to the injury, there will be no Euro Cup for me. First I have to recover 100% and then it is better not to set a date. If I am lucky, I will be able to play another game in May, but you can never be up to date. 100% for a great tournament after this,” he highlighted in an interview with the Belgian media Sporza.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper considers that he will put aside his “honor” and limit himself to being “just another fan in June.” “I'm not going to be 80% in goal as long as we have other good goalkeepers. I will only be one more support for Belgium in June, where hopefully we will fight for the European title,” he stressed.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper was indisputable in the last five major tournaments and for the 'Red Devils'. The coach, Domenico Tedesco, has opted for Koen Casteels (Wolfsburg), Matz Sels (Strasbourg) and Thomas Kaminski (Luton Town) to replace the white goalkeeper in the previous squads.
