Concepción Cascajosa, PSOE activist, elected interim president of RTVE after the beheading of Elena Sánchez

Cascajosa Conceptiona counselor proposed by the PSOE, is the new interim president of RTVE after the beheading of Elena Sanchez in the turbulent board of directors this Tuesday, in which he was also dismissed Jose Pablo Lopez, Content Director of the public channel. The meeting, one of the most turbulent in memory, was the staging of a bloody internal war that had been raging for months.

The councilors met again this Wednesday in a second round which had the relief of Sánchez as the first item on the agenda. Although at first the option of establishing a rotating presidency was considered, as has happened in other times of misgovernment, on this occasion there has been a strong political push for Crunchya “PSOE militant”, as she herself admitted in Congress, obtained enough votes to lead the Corporation on an interim basis for a period of six months.

Cascajosa Conception has had the support of Ramon Colom (PSOE), Jose Baños (PNV), Roberto Lakidain (Unitas Podemos) and José Manuel Martín Medem, the second counselor appointed at the proposal of Unidas Podemos, but linked to the PCE, now integrated into Sumar. The latter’s vote was the most important and the one that tipped the balance on Cascajosa’s side, because at Tuesday’s meeting it was free. In fact, he voted against the dismissal of Elena Sánchez and in favor of removing José Pablo López, a proposal that the three PP councilors (Jenaro Castro, Carmen Sastre and Consuelo Aparicio) also supported.

Medem, initially, has not given its support to Cascajosa, because in exchange it demanded the departure of Alfonso Morales as general secretary of RTVE. The director has finally resigned and the counselor of Unidas Podemos has given his support to the new interim president, while Elena Sánchez has abstained. Due, Cascajosa Conception will lead RTVE on an “interim” basis for the next “six months”, according to the public channel, although it does not detail what will happen after that period.

Borncano, the origin of the war

The trigger for this war that has caused a situation of chaos as surreal as it is unprecedented is in the signing of David Broncano, advanced by Informalia, a hiring that born from Moncloa’s desire for this presenter to occupy the prime time access slot of La 1 to compete against Pablo Motos and wear out The Anthillwhich is a program very critical of Pedro Sánchez.

José Pablo López prepared a plan to hire the showman for three seasons and 14 million of euros each. The matter was addressed at the meeting of RTVE’s highest body that was held on March 11 and was ‘defended’ by Elena Sánchez. However, the president herself backed out at the time of the vote and did not go ahead, despite the fact that she herself is a councilor at the proposal of the PSOE. The signing only had the support of the other two representatives of the PSOE (Crunchy y Columbus), that of the PNV and one of those of Unidas Podemos (Lakidain).

Elena Sánchez’s refusal to support the signing of Broncano showed that she was no longer aligned with the PSOE and that she was going against her Content Director, whom she ended up dismissing this Tuesday, minutes before she herself fell. However, her disagreements come from behind and have been staged through several fights that have taken place in recent months. One of the most symbolic had to do with the interest of the Head of Content in signing Belén Esteban as a jury for Dance as You Can. Sánchez, upon finding out that she was going to hire her without consulting him, stopped that movement. Belén Esteban did not make it to the public channel, but during this time many other collaborators of the extinct Save me. Terelu Campos, Alba Carrillo, Lydia Lozano, Chelo García Cortés and Rocío Carrasco have been disembarking at La 1 at the wish of López.

Concepción Cascajosa, “militant” of the PSOE

Cascajosa Conception She was elected RTVE advisor in March 2021 at the proposal of the PSOE, the party to which she is affiliated. “I am a member of the PSOE and that militancy is part of my social commitment and my ideas, which are progressive,” she admitted then during her appearance in Congress. Before, she entered the competition to preside over RTVE and came in 85th place out of 95 candidates. In any case, this process never came to fruition and finally an agreement was chosen between several political parties – PSOE, PP, Unidas Podemos and PNV – which resulted in the current board of directors.

Born in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) in 1979, Cascajosa has a doctorate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Seville with an Extraordinary Prize (2005). She is a professor of Audiovisual Communication in the Department of Communication of the Carlos III University of Madrid (2012-), she has two recognized six-year research years and the Excellence Award from the Social Council (2016). In addition, since 2013 she has been the director of the Master’s Degree in Film and TV Scriptwriting and is vice dean of Journalism and Audiovisual Communication Studies (2014-) and author or editor of nine books and a hundred academic publications.
