Competition dismisses the allegations of Tenerife and sanctions a match against Zarfino

The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has rejected the allegations presented by Tenerife and has sanctioned with a match suspension to the Uruguayan midfielder Gio zarfino, what was sent off last Wednesday in the match against Ponferradina. The player saw the direct red card for, as reflected in the minutes of the meeting, shout “loudly” the expression “scream like a fagot”, referring to an opposite.

Tenerife presented allegations requesting that the sanction be annulled, arguing that this “unfortunate” action was not directed at an opponent, as reflected in the act, so it would not be punishable as it is not typified in the Disciplinary Code.

However, the Competition Committee considers that the expression “is recognized by the club itself, being clear that it was referring to the performance of the opposing player, having a character not only unfortunate but offensive towards him.” The sanction on Gio Zarfino is the lowest that could have been imposed, since the article for which he is sanctioned includes possible suspensions of between one and three games.
