Atlético and Celta have met 18 times since they met again in the top flight with the promotion of the Galicians in the 2012-13 season (the first that Simeone started on the mattress bench). Since that campaign they have met 16 times in the league championship and the other two in a cup tie (in the rooms of the 2015-16 academic year). Total, the rojiblancos have won 11 games, drawn four and lost three, scoring 30 goals and conceding 14.
However, there are some striking facts about these clashes. For example, in the previously mentioned Copa del Rey tie, Vigo and Madrid tied (0-0) in the first leg, held in Balaídos. On the turn the Galicians won the rojiblanco fiefdom 2-3, qualifying for the semifinals and leaving Simeone's in the gutter. The results in the last two seasons, where the colchoneros have only been able to win a duel of the four What have they had. Last year the balance was two draws (0-0 in the first leg, played at the Wanda Metropolitano; and 1-1, in the second leg at the celestial stadium) and in the previous (2018-19) they also matched, but triumphs (each won their home game 2-0).
However, before these results, Atlético had chained six consecutive victories in the league competition (3-0 and 0-1 in 2017-18; 3-2 and 0-4 in 2016-17; and 2-0 and 0-2 in 2015-16). The rojiblancos also won the first four duels of this series that we analyze. In the 2012-13 season they beat 1-0 at home and 1-3 in Vigo and in 2013-14 they defeated the Galicians 2-1 at the Vicente Calderón and 0-2 at Balaídos. In 2014-15 the streak was cut, as the colchoneros tied (2-2) in their fiefdom and fell (2-0) when they visited Celta.
