Carlos Sainz leaves the hospital after suffering a “serious accident” in Sardinia

MADRID, 7 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, of the ‘ACCIONA/Sainz XE’ team, suffered a “serious accident” this Thursday during the final of the Island X Prix in Sardinia, when he was hit by a rival and flipped over when he was leading the race, so that he was transferred to the hospital and from which he left after the “positive” check-ups although “quite sore”.

“Fortunately, all the check-ups have been positive and I have already left the hospital, although quite sore. However, I am deeply disappointed with what has happened on the track and even more so with the fact that a penalty of only 30 seconds has been applied to whoever caused this strong accident,” said the pilot on his social networks.

The Spanish driver, in search of his first victory of the season, reached a stage that joined the two lines of the five finalist cars before anyone else, but one of them, Johan Kristofferson (RXR), rammed Sainz’s car from the side, who overturned after the spectacular accident.

Even so, the pilot got out by his own feet and remained conscious at all times, although he was later transferred to the hospital as a precaution to undergo medical tests.

“In more than 40 years of sports career, this is one of the most serious actions that I have seen without having been sanctioned in an exemplary manner. Thank you very much to everyone for your messages of support,” the Madrid native said in a statement.

After the accident he was unable to return to the race, while Kristoffersson continued despite the damage sustained and leads the championship standings, even with the penalty.
