Boris Becker will continue training the Danish Holger Rune in 2024

STUTTGART (GERMANY), 19 Nov. (dpa/EP) –

Former German tennis player Boris Becker will continue to be the coach of Danish tennis player Holger Rune next year, the three-time Wimbledon winner confirmed this Sunday.

Becker began working with world number eight Rune last month on a contract until the end of the season, after the Dane lost his first match in six of seven post-Wimbledon tournaments.

Rune improved again and qualified for the ATP Finals in Turin, where he was eliminated earlier in the week in the group stage. Becker said on X, formerly Twitter, that the agreement has been expanded.

“I am very excited to continue my partnership with Holger Rune in 2024. We are building a team around Holger to bring out the best version of himself, on and off the track,” said Becker. Becker, 55, had previously called Rune, 20, “a diamond in the rough that needs to be polished.”

The German has had success in the past as a coach, helping world number one Novak Djokovic win several Grand Slam titles during their partnership between 2013 and 2016.
