Blázquez: “My dream and next objective is to create the City of Handball”

The complex would have RFEBM offices, a gym, a residence for players and a pavilion for 3,500 spectators

MADRID, 25 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM), Francisco Blázquez, announced on Tuesday the creation of a Handball City that will house the federation offices, as well as a residence with a gym for players and a pavilion, to be the ” workshop” of the Hispanics and the Warriors.

“My dream and next objective is to create the City of Handball. A pavilion for 3,500 spectators, a residence with 60 rooms, an office area for the RFEBM with a room where we can have assemblies and meetings, set up courses, a gym… It is the objective”, said Blázquez in the ‘Sports Breakfasts’ of Europa Press sponsored by Repsol, DAZN, State Lotteries and Betting and Unicaja.

As explained by the president, who will run for re-election next year, this City of Handball is a personal dream. “It’s what I have in my head, my board knows it and I have it inside, and I’m going for it. It’s complex, complicated, but handball deserves to have the City of Handball. A little smaller than the city of soccer “He joked, addressing the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, present at the event.

This future City of Handball will be in Madrid or its surroundings, since they are working with two or three possible locations. “My idea is to do something public-private, that we can share with a City Council and that society can use, but that it be the epicenter or workshop in which we work with our teams. That handball is centralized in that City of Handball” , contributed.

“Work is being done on the site, we hope that it will be made public in May. There are two or three possibilities with which we work. The main concern is that to have a sports city you must have significant economic muscle. And seek financing for both supplies as well as the workers that this city needs”, Blázquez concluded about this City of Handball.

On the other hand, the president of Spanish handball spoke of the joint candidacy between Spain, Portugal and Switzerland to host the men’s Euro 2028. A project that includes playing the final phase in Madrid, in the remodeled Santiago Bernabéu of Real Madrid, with the aim of breaking the record of 44,189 spectators in a handball match.

“It is a project that we have, there is plenty of time. We have had the first contacts, but first the works are finished, which I think will be shortly at the end of the year. From there, start working to have that final It is an illusion and what men’s handball deserves, that great climax”, he valued.

“And that it could be held at the Bernabéu, a modern stadium that allows us to cover the roof, is an illusion and a dream. With more than 45,000 fans, for sure,” he added in this regard.

For Blázquez, his mandate -if he is re-elected in 2024- would meet the double objective of holding a “great women’s event”, such as the 2021 World Cup, and a great men’s event, that possible 2028 European Championship with a final in the Bernabeu.

But I would also support, at the right time, a possible Madrid Olympic candidacy for the year 2036. “I am a very disciplined person, and the boss (the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco) is here and he already said that logically there has to be an understanding together,” said Blázquez, also vice president of the COE.

“When Alejandro says that it has to be the moment, we will be supporting him. If something makes sports people special, it is that we are all a pineapple. And we are led by the best president we could have, Alejandro,” he said.

It does depend on the RFEBM to be able to host, if necessary, the Pre-Olympic qualifying tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “We have organized the Women’s World Cup with worldwide success and in the midst of a pandemic. A very important letter of introduction. This time It won’t be a money problem, I’ll make sure that the boys and girls can play in our country”, he assured in this sense.
