Barça and Athletic Club choose opposite paths to the Copa de la Reina semifinals

The Catalans beat Sevilla (8-0) and the Basques even suffered penalties against Costa Adeje Tenerife

MADRID, 7 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Barça defeated Sevilla (8-0) this Wednesday to advance with authority to the semi-final round of the Copa de la Reina, while Athletic Club overcame Costa Adeje Tenerife with a lot of suspense in the penalty shootout.

The Barça team showed its favoritism and hunger in a title with pending accounts, since last year it was eliminated due to improper alignment in the round of 16. Johann Cruyff enjoyed at the expense of a Sevilla team that received the same correction as in League F.

Barça beat the Andalusians 8-0, just like they did three months ago in the domestic competition. Sevilla's reaction since then, which had not known defeat, died against a serious and tremendously effective Barça already in the first half.

Two goals from Salma Paralluelo, Aitana Bonmatí, another two from Mariona and Graham sealed the Catalan ticket to the 'Final Four'. In the second half, Aitana and Ari Arias rounded off the night of the recent Super Cup champion, a Barça that brought another title closer.

Meanwhile, at the other crossing held this Wednesday, the path to Friday's draw was very different. Athletic suffered greatly against an Adeje team that gave a lot of fight in Lezama, the match being equal as it was two weeks ago in the League on Canarian soil. The Tenerife team, a semi-finalist in 2022, reacted to the goal 10 minutes into Elexpuru with Patri Gavira making it 1-1.

Both teams had their chances to win the match, clearer in the Canary Islands than in an Athletic that was proud and looked for danger from outside the area. Thus the extra time died, with a last local shot before an agonizing penalty shootout.

There, Tenerife's Brazilian goalkeeper Aline Reis stopped two shots to start, but the referee ordered her to repeat the second one because she didn't have her feet in place. It didn't seem that way or at least the doubt will be reasonable without VAR to verify it, but the Canarian team maintained the lead in the shootout until the final 7-6 that Irene Oguiza converted.
