Auger-Aliassime defends title in Basel and Sinner triumphs in Vienna

MADRID, 29 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Canadian tennis player Felix Auger-Aliassime won the ATP 500 tournament in Basel (Switzerland) for the second consecutive edition, beating the Polish Hubert Hurkacz in the final, while the Italian Jannik Sinner triumphed in the ATP 500 in Vienna over the Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Auger-Aliassime recovered his best version this week with the icing on the cake of a great victory in the final 7-6(3), 7-6(5), the first he played in a 2023 marked by a major injury, thus defending the tournament he won last year.

The Canadian thus adds his fifth title, won in his last six finals after losing the first eight, to once again demonstrate that he is still one of the best players in the world. The match had no breaks and Auger-Aliassime did not even grant the option to do so to a Hurkacz who was outmatched in both tie-breaks.

Meanwhile, Sinner beat Medvedev for the second time this month in a final, after winning the one in Beijing, and with a 7-6(7), 4-6, 6-3 he won the fourth title of 2023 and the tenth of his record. . The three-hour marathon in search of a champion was scored by the Italian, one of the few capable of stopping Medvedev in his great season.

On the other hand, on the WTA circuit, the Brazilian Haddad Maia won her third title this Sunday, the biggest of her career, by beating (7-6(11), 7-6(4)) the Chinese Zheng Qinwen in the final of the tournament in Zhuhai, China.
