Athletic leaves Celta without a prize with a penalty in the 97th minute

Berenguer scored the maximum penalty at the end of a crazy match (4-3)

Aspas broke his drought, but missed a key penalty

MADRID, 10 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Athletic Club won this Friday 4-3 against RC Celta thanks to a penalty scored by Álex Berenguer in the 97th minute, in a match corresponding to matchday 13 of LaLiga EA Sports and where Iago Aspas broke his scoring drought of almost eight months , although he then missed a penalty that could have even sealed the victory for Vigo.

At the San Mamés Stadium, under incessant rain, Celta warned with two chances before Aspas scored 0-1 in the 25th minute. After escaping from a central defender in a long pass, the man from Moaña leaned over to hook a left foot that entered next to the post stump. He equalized in the 37th minute by Oihan Sancet, attentive in the area for a loose ball.

A center from Nico Williams tripped over Óscar Mingueza and was poisoned, so that Mikel Vesga extended a header back in a body with Carl Starfelt. It didn’t take long for the light blue team to take the lead again, thanks to a right hand from Jonathan Bamba from the edge of the box. But Gorka Guruzeta equalized before the break, finishing off a pass from Nico Williams from point-blank range, following his slalom down the left wing.

Guruzeta himself scored 3-2 upon returning from the locker room, finishing with pleasure the goalkeeper’s rebound from a Nico Williams shot after a corner. In the 66th minute, Jorgen Strand Larsen made it 3-3, culminating a counterattack guided by Aspas until his ‘death’ pass. Aspas himself then missed a penalty and his team paid dearly for it, making it 4-3 in stoppage time after a maximum penalty ordered by Mingueza.

This victory placed the Bilbao team in fifth place, now with 24 points and close to Atlético de Madrid (25 pts.), which occupies fourth position. Meanwhile, Celta continued to be in the relegation zone, still with seven points and increasing their negative streak.
