MADRID, 22 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Castellón athlete Alba Cebrián has died at the age of 23 at the La Plana University Hospital in Vila-Real after not recovering from the cardiac arrest she suffered while training last Thursday at the La Vall d'Uixó athletics track (Castellón) , the Athletics Federation of the Valencian Community (FACV) confirmed this Monday.

“Valencian athletics is broken by the loss of Alba Cebrián, an athlete from Alqueries (Castellón) who was only 23 years old. We will remember her doing what she loved: running and overcoming obstacles. And always with that smile of hers. A hug to the family and relatives,” said the FACV on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.

Cebrián, who belonged to the Celtíberas de Soria Athletics Club, was training at the La Vall d'Uixó athletics facilities last Thursday, January 18, when he fainted. A doctor present on the track performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the ambulance arrived.

The young athlete was transferred to the La Plana University Hospital in Vila-Real, where she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). After four days in “very serious” condition, the athlete died.

The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) described this Monday as a “day of mourning for Spanish athletics.” “Our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Alba Cebrián, to her club and her colleagues from the Celtíberas, and to the entire Athletics Federation of the Valencian Community,” said the federative body.

The president of the RFEA, Raúl Chapado, also expressed his regret for the death of Cebrián. “No one is prepared for these fatal outcomes, how difficult they are to understand and accept. My most sincere condolences, especially for her family, friends and colleagues. We will remember and honor her memory. Rest in peace, Alba,” he wrote in X .
