ASVEL dismisses Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco

MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

ASVEL Villeurbanne terminated this Saturday “with immediate effect” its contract with Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco, which leaves Lyon second to last in the Regular Phase of the 2023-2024 Euroleague with only 3 wins in 19 games, now appointing Frenchman Pierric Poupet as coach to “give a boost” in the second part of the season, according to a statement.

“The management of ASVEL Villeurbanne has made the decision to part ways with Gianmarco Pozzecco and has reached an agreement with the Italian coach for an amicable termination of his contract with immediate effect,” the French team announced on its website.

The Lyon team is second to last in the Euroleague with a record of 3-16 and only one win in the last 11 continental duels. Thus, ASVEL seeks to give “a new impetus” in the second part of the season, led by former player Pierric Poupet, 39 years old and in his first adventure on the bench.

The new coach will be accompanied by Edoardo Casalone and Joseph Gomis, as well as Karim Atamna, who will be in charge of the individual development of the players.
