As for Brian Callahan’s hiring as head coach by the Titans: Mike Vrabel will be succeeded by a former Bengals OC in Tennessee.

According to CBS Sports Lead NFL Reporter Jonathan Jones, the Tennessee Titans are contemplating the employment of former Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman Brian Callahan in the capacity of their new head coach.

Mike Vrabel, who was terminated earlier this month following two consecutive losing seasons, is replaced by Callahan. Callahan attains the position of the sixth-youngest head instructor in the NFL at the age of 39.

Callahan, the son of current Cleveland Browns overall line coach and former Oakland Raider head coach Bill Callahan, has served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator for the past five seasons.

Before that, he was the quarterbacks coach to feed the Oakland Raiders and Detroit Lions. He joined the league on the Denver Broncos as a coaching assistant. He was an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos during their 50th Super Bowl victory.

Callahan has mentored several elite quarterbacks in the football league, including Peyton Manning, Joe Burrow, Matthew Stafford, and Derek Carr. Will Levis, a young quarterback for the Titans, is one such quarterback who requires further development.

This season, Callahan encountered offensive adversity when Burrow suffered a season-ending thumb injury in November. Browning completed the 2023 season tied for fourth place in yards every attempt (8.0) and first in the percentage of completions (70.4%).

Jake Browning, an NFL backup quarterback with no prior starting experience, entered the game and recorded a 4-3 record as the starting quarterback. The team won three consecutive games, with two of the victories occurring in overtime.

Equally as important as developing Levis is resetting the game as a whole. In the last three seasons, Tennessee’s offense has been among the worst, ranking seventeenth in total yards in 2021, thirty-first in 2022, and twenty-eighths this past season.

In 2023, the Titans scored 17.9 points every game on average. Carolina Panthers, New York Jets, New York Giants, and New England Patriots were the only teams with a lower average point total.

In place of Mike Vrabel, Callahan became the sixth coach in the history of the Titans franchise to be dismissed following the conclusion of the regular season.

League sources told Adam Schefter on Monday night that the Tennessee Titans are trying to finalize an agreement with Cincinnati Bengals offensive leader Brian Callahan to hire him as their next head coach.

During his five-year tenure as offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals, Callahan was instrumental in establishing an offense that propelled the club to two AFC North division titles and a 2021 Super Bowl appearance.

In the NFL, the Bengals ranked eighth in passing yards (265.0), fifth in points per game (26.1), and eighth in total yards (360.5 per game). Additionally, in 2022, the Bengals ranked fourth to the NFL in terms of offensive DVOA.

“He establishes the entire offensive structure,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor declared of Callahan. “He has contributed to the formation of every position we hold.” His contributions are invaluable. “There are not enough positive things to say about him.”

Vrabel was terminated by Titans controlling proprietor Amy Adams Strunk following consecutive seasons of defeat. Ran Carthon, the general manager appointed by Adams Strunk, presided over the committee that made the final determination to employ Callahan.

Since he arrived in 2018, Vrabel has guided Tennessee to four continuous winning seasons. The Titans, who began the 2022 season with a 7-3 record, lost 13 of their subsequent 18 games, such as a seven-game losing streak.

Callahan debuted in the National Football League in 2010 as an offensive help for the Denver Broncos. Coaching assistant, offensive inspection coach, and offensive assistant were some of the positions he held before 2015 when Peyton Manning led the Denver Broncos to victory in the Super Bowl.

Callahan possesses considerable expertise in collaborating with elite quarterbacks, having served as the quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions in 2016 and 2017.

During that time, Callahan mentored Matthew Stafford, who led the team in passing yards with over 4,000 each year.

In 2018, Callahan maintained the same position with the Oakland Raiders, assisting quarterback Derek Carr in accumulating 4,000 passing yards, a milestone that he first achieved in his professional career. He will now collaborate with Will Levis, a second-year quarterback.

Reports indicate that offensive coordinator Barry Callahan of the Cincinnati Bengals will become the new coach of the Tennessee Titans. Callahan will be tasked with developing Will Levis as the future quarterback of the Tennessee Titans.

Callahan, 39, served as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator throughout the previous five seasons and assisted in the club’s promotion to Super Bowl LVI following the 2021 season. Joe Burrow, a quarterback, was one of his prized pupils.

An alternative defensive coordinator candidate has surfaced from beyond Halas Hall. Mike Garafolo reports that Terrell Williams, assistant head coach/defensive tackle coach for the Titans, will be interviewed by the Bears in consideration for the vacant position on their defensive staff.

Twelve of Williams’ twenty-six years of coaching knowledge were spent at the NFL level. During his final six seasons with Tennessee, he assisted coach Mike Vrabel in constructing one of the league’s most dependable defenses.

The Titans ranked first in the NFL in rush defense in 2022, allowing 76.9 yards per game. Additionally, Williams coached the Dolphins’ defensive line from 2015 to 2017 and the Raiders’ from 2012 to 2014.

Williams has coached some successful players, including Ndamukong Suh, Jeffrey Simmons, Denico Autry, and Cameron Wake.

Williams also assisted DeMarcus Walker, a current Bears defensive lineman, in tying an NFL record for seven sacks in 2022 while they were both in Tennessee.
