A lawyer from Oman acknowledged this Sunday wanting to buy Lionel Messi’s ‘bisht’ for a million dollars, the traditional Arab tunic with which he was awarded at the trophy delivery ceremony after Argentina’s victory in the World Cup final in Qatar .
“From the Sultanate of Oman I congratulate you on winning the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The ‘bisht’ was a symbol of chivalry and wisdom. I offer you a million dollars for giving me that ‘bisht’,” the Omani lawyer and parliamentarian wrote on Twitter.
The head of State of Qatar, the Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, gave the Argentine player the transparent ‘bisht’ to wear at the award ceremony. “I was in the stadium watching live that moment in which the emir gave the ‘bisht’ to Messi. That moment told the world that we are here and that this is our culture,” al-Barwani told The National newspaper. .
“The ‘bisht is a symbol of many things, such as wisdom, courage, integrity, generosity and authenticity, and most importantly, it says who we are,” he said.
The lawyer acknowledged that he does not want to carry the ‘bisht himself, but assured that he will expose himself if his bid is successful. “He will be out there to commemorate that proud moment and to help us relive it, and also to remind us that we can do anything,” he concluded.
