Ambros Martín selects the Guerreras that will close the European qualifier

The Spanish women’s handball coach, Ambros Martín, announced this Thursday the different squad lists for the next Guerreras events, with a first concentration in Pinto (Madrid) and two official qualifying matches for the 2024 European Championship (already with the ticket achieved), with the Torrevieja Pre-Olympic on the horizon.

The preparation of the Warriors for these commitments will begin in Madrid with a part of the expedition and, in a staggered manner, players will be added for the dispute of the fifth and sixth days of the qualifying phase for the 2024 European Championship, now without nothing at stake after qualifying in the recent double match against North Macedonia.

For this first concentration, from March 28 to 31 at the Príncipes de Asturias Municipal Sports Center in Pinto, Ambros Martín has named 18 players, starting with Mercedes Castellanos (Costa del Sol Málaga) and Nicole Wiggins (OGC Nice) in goal.

The centrals Paola Bernabé (Costa del Sol Málaga) and Silvia Arderius (Costa del Sol Málaga), the laterals Lorena Zarco (Motive.Co Gijón La Calzada), María Prieto O’Mullony (Caja Rural Aula Valladolid), Paula Arcos (Vipers Kristianstad ), Estitxu Berasategui (Costa del Sol Málaga), Ester Somaza (KH-7 Granollers) and Danila So Delgado (AtticGo Elche) are also on the list.

At the extremes, Martín has Maitane Etxeberria (Super Amara Bera Bera), Paula Valdivia (Motive.Co Gijón La Calzada), Paulina P. Buforn (Conservas Orbe Rubensa Porriño), Soledad López (Costa del Sol Málaga) and Jennifer Gutiérrez ( CS Rapid Bucuresti), while pivots Eli Cesáreo (Costa del Sol Málaga), Lysa Tchaptchet (Vipers Kristianstad) and María Palomo (Mecalia Atlético Guardés) close this list.

Of these 18 players called up for Madrid, only 10 will attend the first match against Lithuania, in the penultimate of the European qualifying matches. Ambros Martín will call up seven other players who will travel directly to the Lithuanian capital for the match, scheduled for April 3.

This list of 17 will be made up of Nicole Wiggins (OGC Nice) and Darly Zoqby (SCM Craiova) in goal, with Silvia Arderius (Costa del Sol Málaga), Carmen Campos (BVB Dortmund) and Alicia Fernández (CS Rapid Bucuresti) as center backs and, on the sides, María Prieto O’Mullony (Caja Rural Aula Valladolid), Mireya González (HC Dunarea Braila), Lara González (CS Rapid Bucuresti), Danila So Delgado (AtticGo Elche) and Ester Somaza (KH-7 Granollers) .

The wingers will be Maitane Etxeberria (Super Amara Bera Bera), Marta López (CS Rapid Bucuresti), Paulina P. Buforn (Conservas Orbe Rubensa Porriño), Soledad López (Costa del Sol Málaga) and Jennifer Gutiérrez (CS Rapid Bucuresti). And, the pivots will be Eli Cesáreo (Costa del Sol Málaga) and Kaba Gassama (SG BBM Bietigheim).

After the match against Lithuania, Spain will head to Pontevedra to play the last European qualifying match against Azerbaijan, at the Porriño Municipal Pavilion. Appointment with four more Guerreras regarding Lithuania, joining in the goal (again) Mercedes Castellanos (Costa del Sol Málaga), the right back Paula Arcos (Vipers Kristianstad), the left back Shandy Cabral (Brest Bretagne) and the pivot Lysa Tchaptchet (Vipers Kristianstad).

Ambros Martín will announce two discards from among these 21 players called up for the duel in Porriño, who will form the final call-up list for the Pre-Olympic tournament that Spain will host in Torrevieja, in search of a ticket for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games following in the wake of the Hispanics, who did the same in the Granollers Pre-Olympic.
