Álvaro Martín, candidate for ‘best athlete’ of the year in 2023

The Spanish walker Álvaro Martín entered this Thursday in the group of candidates to win the award for ‘best athlete’ of the year in 2023 by the International Athletics Federation, World Athletics.

Like the world champion of 20 km and 35 km walking, María Pérez nominated on Wednesday, Martín is also among the 11 best of the year, pending the winner on December 11, after also proclaiming herself world champion 20 and 35 kilometer march in Budapest.

A three-way voting process will determine the five finalists on November 13 and 14. The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes by email, while fan feedback will also be taken into account. The vote of the Council will represent 50% of the result, while the votes of the World Athletics Family and the public will each represent 25%.
