The player and captain of Barça Femení Alexia Putellas acknowledged that the situation in women’s football has improved in that there are now girls who can have the dream of being professional footballers and follow the example of the Ballon d’Or and The Best, who teaches a Barça that aspires to everything.
“The important thing is that these girls have the opportunity to see that there are players, to dream that one day they can be them. We did not have it and now they do have it, and that is super important,” she assured in an interview for the magazine ‘GQ Hype’.
In this sense, she regretted that in her time, when she was a child, being a professional soccer player was not an option. The passage of time has changed things. “For me it was super normal to play soccer since I was little. But in the end you realize the difference there was: the children who started could have the dream of becoming professionals, I did not,” she lamented.
“When they asked you what you want to be when you grow up, the boys could say a footballer and the girls could not, because that did not exist. That is the big difference. I played, enjoyed and that’s it, I did not set the goal of being a professional,” he deepened. about.
Far from the future she imagined as a child, Alexia Putellas leads Barça and the Spanish team in professional women’s football. “Yes, I am aware that now I represent many more people, people who have not had these opportunities, and I feel that responsibility,” she said.
“But in the end if you have a responsibility and you don’t like what you do, you end up leaving it or you don’t perform the same. In the end it’s a mix. The important thing is that you do it because you really like it, and then you know that the rest is a consequence of it”, he explained in this sense.
