Albert Rivera defends himself in court after being sued by his former company: “I hope to turn the page”

Albert Rivera, amidst rumors of a break with Malú, has reappeared this Wednesday, June 21, at Commercial Court number 17 in Madrid. He has appeared after the lawsuit for alleged unfair competition filed against him by the Martínez-Echevarría law firm, in which he began working after leaving politics in November 2019 and from which he left in February of last year, generating great repercussions.

Upon leaving the courts, the former orange leader said: “If you are a journalist and tomorrow you open a gift shop, then you do not compete with the media.” And he added: “We hope that in that trial it will be restored and we can turn the page on this stage.”

Lucía Rivera Sánchez’s father stopped working at the firm at the beginning of last year. “His productivity was reaching worrying levels, well below any reasonable standard,” they said at the time. The confidential. Next to him came José Manuel Villegas, who was his number 2 in Ciudadanos.

After passing through the law firm, both he and his partner set up a consultancy, RV+, and from Martínez-Echevarría they sued them for unfair competition. “We are a consultancy, not a law firm,” he also pointed out at the end of the trial.

For this reason, the former politician considers that the lawsuit filed against them is “obsolete.” “There can be no unfair competition when you do not dedicate yourself to the same thing. If you set up a butcher shop and tomorrow you set up a hardware store, you do not compete with the butcher shop,” he stressed to the press.

Regarding the trial, he also said: “We had a commercial trial pending today, which has already been filed for a good part. One last part remains to be seen, but we hope it will be resolved quickly and everything will be clarified.”
