Al-Attiyah will defend his victory in the Dakar Rally with Prodrive Hunter

MADRID, 26 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah will compete in the 2024 Dakar Rally, where he will defend victory in the car category, driving a Prodrive Hunter, his new vehicle after leaving Toyota and the fourth different one with which he will try to win the event.

The 52-year-old Asian will participate in what is considered the toughest raid in the world. Which will be held in Saudi Arabia from January 5 to 19, for the twentieth time and in search of his sixth victory after those of 2011 (Volkswagen), 2015 (Mini), 2019, 2022 and 2023 (Toyota).

“The Prodrive Hunter is a sensational car. I think that after three trips to the Dakar and two second places, the time has come for this car to win the Dakar. I want to be part of Dakar history and the best way to do that is to win with four different brands,” said Al-Attiyah in a statement provided this Thursday by Red Bull.

The Qatari, who will have Mathieu Baumel as co-driver, will share a team with the Frenchman Sébastien Loeb, who accompanied him on the podium in the last two editions. “This is the first time that I will be a teammate of ‘Seb’ in the Dakar, but I already know him very well. He really is a great driver and the speed he has shown in the Dakar these last two years has been incredible. I hope one of us can win in 2024,” he stressed.

“2024 seems like a special year. Not only do I have the opportunity to go to my seventh Olympic Games in Paris, but I also have the chance to win the Dakar with a fourth different manufacturer,” Al-Attiyah wished.
